Plattsburgh, NY, United States
Start Location: Clinton Community College:
This loop starts from a spectacular
historic landmark bluff overlooking Lake Champlain.
Once a famous hotel that served as a summer White
House for President Woodrow Wilson. It is now a community
college.
The ride heads south in a clockwise loop (the ride is
equally nice in the opposite direction). Starting on the
Rt. 9 Bikeway, ride a short distance past the third oldest
golf course in the US to the mouth of the Salmon River.
Then turn west riding through gently sloping fertile farmlands
of the northern Adirondack Coast. North of Peru
you will ride a short distance on Rt. 22B. Be sure to look
behind you here, into the Ausable Valley with a teasing
view of the Adirondack foothills and mountains. After
again crossing the Salmon River, you'll head east toward
Plattsburgh International Airport, formerly Plattsburgh
Air Force Base, now the region's new airport. Check the
views of the Adirondacks off to your right along Arizona
Ave. After returning to NYS Rt. 9 Bikeway the finish is less
than two miles away.
