The Bluegrass Headwaters Ride skirts the edges of the headwaters of the Big Walnut Creek and Grassy Branch Creek which provide just enough gently rolling hills to keep things interesting on the legs and the eyes. The ride begins in Lizton, IN and it traverses through portions of Hendricks and Boone County.

The 26-mile route alternates pavement and gravel throughout giving welcome sections of respite from the harder-to-pedal and slower gravel sections. The terrain is somewhat rolling for this area of Indiana and consists of 11 miles of gravel and 15 miles of pavement. The pavement portions are in excellent condition while the gravel is a loose, round type that can be somewhat challenging at times.

This is an excellent ride for gravel-riding enthusiasts who are looking for a no-drop ride with very low traffic, stops to regroup and multiple bailout points. The focus will be on fun and hanging out with friends, not speed. We will meet for great food and beer at the Rusted Silo BBQ and Brewhouse at the end as extra incentive!

This ride requires a bike that is appropriate for riding loose gravel. Tires that are at least 32mm in width are necessary. Road bikes with skinny tires are not suitable for this route. Please be prepared to deal with a few dogs that may chase us along the way.

WHERE: Lizton, IN
Park at the State Bank of Lizton.
